Garden Valley School District Public Announcement
Air Quality, Procedures, Safeguards
The health and wellbeing of our students is our top priority. Garden Valley School District utilizes multiple tools in detecting and discovering air quality readings. Alongside these readings, we follow the IHSAA and Idaho Department of Health and Welfare recommendations.
The website, www.airnow.gov allows the school district to access the instrument readings throughout the day.
The Activity Guidelines for Wildfire Smoke Events resource is the tool that is used to guide the district in regards to outdoor activities and decision making. When the air quality index is above 150, recesses are required to be indoors. Garden Valley School utilizes the hallways, Multipurpose Room, and Gym for recess time. When the air quality index is between 151 and 200, athletic teams can assemble for walkthroughs, with no strenuous activity. If the AQI rises above 201, no outside activity is permitted.
Students and athletes are monitored at all times when these conditions exist. Garden Valley School staff and coaches follow the recommendations set forth in the Activity Guidelines for Wildfire Smoke Events.
