Dear parents and community members,
A few years ago, our school district entered into a contract with Mountain Waterworks Engineering to conduct a study on our drinking water and wastewater facilities at Garden Valley Schools. This was done because of concerns around the capacity and functionality of these systems. Indications at the time were that these systems would be over capacity within the next 3-5 years. The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality also partnered with the school district to fund 50% of the costs of these engineering studies to determine what upgrades, additions or changes need to be made to our systems. Mountain Waterworks has completed their study and will be presenting their findings, their recommendations, and various options available to us at a public meeting on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 6pm in the MPR at the Garden Valley School building.
The findings of the engineering studies indicate that our drinking water and wastewater systems are nearing the end of their useful life. As such, improvements in the form of upgrades or new construction will be needed within the next few years. These improvements come with a cost to the school district. We are seeking grant funding and government funding for these improvements, and we will continue to explore all opportunities and options for funding from many different sources. However, there could be some cost to the taxpayers of our school district in order to fund these needed improvements. As such, it is important that everyone in the public have a voice in the decision process.
